Waiting on Wednesday: In the Afterlight by Alexandra Bracken

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to showcase upcoming releases that we're excited for. This week, I'm waiting for In the Afterlight by Alexandra Bracken. It's the third book in the Darkest Minds trilogy, which is an amazing, underrated dystopian trilogy. These books have great characters, great world building, and lots of kicking ass. I really recommend you read the first two books before this comes out on October 28,2014. Oh, and the coolest part of it, is that the titles complete a sentence. Which I'm excited to understand the meaning behind it. But the sentence is: The Darkest Minds Never Fade In the Afterlight. But that's cool. The cover's interesting...Not sure how I feel about it. It'll probably look a lot better in person, when it has all the shimmery, glossy, shiny, sparkly dimension. The covers for this series are pretty, but they don't really hint at what the books are about. But that's beside the point. I loved The Darkest Minds, and I loved Never Fade even more, so I'm really excited for In the Afterlight. The Amazon blurb doesn't reveal too much, but enough to keep readers excited. It says we'll see more Cole, and there's conspiracy, and they're holding Clancy prisoner, and IT'S EXCITING.

Amazon Blurb
Ruby can't look back. Fractured by an unbearable loss, she and the kids who survived the government's attack on Los Angeles travel north to regroup. With them is a prisoner: Clancy Gray, son of the president, and one of the few people Ruby has encountered with abilities like hers. Only Ruby has any power over him, and just one slip could lead to Clancy wreaking havoc on their minds.
They are armed only with a volatile secret: proof of a government conspiracy to cover up the real cause of IANN, the disease that has killed most of America's children and left Ruby and others like her with powers the government will kill to keep contained. But internal strife may destroy their only chance to free the "rehabilitation camps" housing thousands of other Psi kids.
Meanwhile, reunited with Liam, the boy she would-and did-sacrifice everything for to keep alive, Ruby must face the painful repercussions of having tampered with his memories of her. She turns to Cole, his older brother, to provide the intense training she knows she will need to take down Gray and the government. But Cole has demons of his own, and one fatal mistake may be the spark that sets the world on fire.

So this is my Waiting on Wednesday. What's your's? Tell me in the comments, and I'll talk to you next time.

  1. I can't wait to read this one and finally wrap up the series! Great pick!

  2. I'll definitely be reading this one! I really liked the first book. The second one not as much. I may have to re-read them before this one, cause I don't remember too much about the second book.

    1. Really? I liked the second one a lot. If there was more Liam/Ruby cuteness, that would have been appreciated, but without it, it was really exhilarating, and fast paced.
